Practice Focus

Meghan L. Abernathy joined the firm in 2016 as an associate. Meghan focuses her practice in the area of family law and assists Laura Burt with Separation, Divorce, Spousal Support, Child Support and Child Custody matters.

Meghan is a native of the Charlotte area who grew up on Lake Norman. Meghan graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s in Journalism and Political Science. Meghan decided to return to Charlotte and graduated from Charlotte School of Law with honors. While in law school, Meghan served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Access to Justice Journal and clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Richard Voorhees in Charlotte. In addition, Meghan’s hard work earned her top honors in her family law and negotiations classes.

Meghan continues to be passionate about the Charlotte community and volunteers her time as a member of the Junior League of Charlotte, volunteer attorney with Council for Children’s Rights, and as a volunteer at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital.
